Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make a Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
Over 1500 volunteers are expected to participate in more than 50 Love Your Block projects across the City of Mesa on Saturday, October 22, 2016 as part of National Make a Difference Day. Residents, neighborhood groups, local businesses, church groups and City of Mesa staff volunteer for a variety of beautification and cleanup projects. Examples of service projects include painting walls and curb numbers; cleaning up parks, alleys and canals; distributing neighborhood resource bags and helping residents who need assistance with painting and landscaping.
If you are part of a group interested in participating in Make a Difference Day, please provide your information below. Participating groups will be asked to support projects by providing one primary point of contact to work with the City of Mesa and may be asked to provide materials and supplies needed to complete projects (ex: shovels, rakes, ladders, paint brushes, paint rollers, etc). For large groups, significant coordination and communication will be needed from the primary point of contact. Interested groups will be contacted on a first come, first served basis starting in approximately early September. We may not be able to provide projects for all interested groups.
If you are an individual interested in participating in a Make a Difference Day project, please provide your information below. Exterior house painting projects for residents in need may be available for individuals who are not part of a community group in there are enough interested volunteers. Volunteers organizing independent service activities in Mesa on October 22, as part of the National Make a Difference Day of Service, are encouraged to apply to the event's Grant Program. Each grant involves up to two landfill passes or a Home Depot gift card for up to $100 to purchase materials and supplies for a specific project. Landfill passes are available for either the Salt River Landfill or the San Tan Transfer Station. The deadline to submit a grant application is Monday, October 10th at 4PM.
